How do I make a payment protection claim?
Details of how to make a payment protection claim are given by each individual lender but usually they only involve a phone call. Normally the process is as follows;
1) You call or write to the Claims Department.
2) They will send you a form to complete and return to them. Often this comes with a set time limit. For example, many providers insist that they have the completed form within 60 days of the event that is causing the claim. If this is involuntary employment then act swiftly. Please make your dependencies aware of this requirement in the event that it is accident or sickness and you are incapacitated and so unable to process the claim yourself.
3) They will confirm to you as to whether your claim has been successful and advise when the benefits (money towards the loan repayments) will commence. Often before making this decision they will seek further evidence of your health or employment situation.
In the event that your claim is rejected or that you are unhappy with the service received, you can make a complaint. These complaints are first heard internally as part of an established appeals procedures. If you are still not satisfied with the outcome you have the right to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
