What happens if I have a poor credit history?
It depends on the attitude of the lender. If you are suffering from a poor credit history, you fall into one of two groups. Either you have a history of not paying back loans or other credit agreements and you have been assessed as a bad risk to lend money to, or somewhere along the line a mistake has been made.
People who enter details into computers do make mistakes sometimes and if you cannot remember why or are adamant that you have never fallen behind or defaulted on any other loan or credit agreement, you can write to one of the Credit Reference Agencies at the following addresses and for a nominal fee request a copy of all information that they hold on you:
Equifax PLC
Credit File Advice Service
PO Box 3001
Glasgow
G81 2DT
Callcredit PLC
Consumer Services Team
PO Box 491
Leeds LS1 5XX
Experian Ltd
Consumer Help Service
PO Box 8000
Nottingham

You may also find that some lenders will charge you a higher rate of interest or demand a deposit before they lend you any money. Again think about how much money you will have to find to clear the debt.
